Product Description

Timeless Geometry: Elevate Your Home with Van Gogh Herringbone Canadian Urban Oak

For homeowners in Ireland seeking to blend the raw, organic beauty of the outdoors with the high-end architectural flair of a “parquet” design, Van Gogh Herringbone Canadian Urban Oak by Karndean is a definitive choice. This 6.5mm thick LVT offers a stunningly realistic wood-effect, featuring a neutral, mid-toned oak palette with subtle, flowing grain patterns. By taking the popular Canadian Urban Oak and arranging it in a sophisticated herringbone pattern, Karndean has created a floor that adds immediate “designer” value and a sense of movement to any hallway, living room, or open-plan kitchen.

The High-Performance Choice: SPC Floors for the Irish Home

In Ireland, our floors face a unique set of challenges—from the damp Atlantic air to the high-traffic demands of a busy family household. Canadian Urban Oak is a high-performance SPC (Stone Plastic Composite) floor, featuring Karndean’s proprietary K-Core® technology. This rigid core construction ensures the planks remain dimensionally stable, meaning they won’t warp, swell, or “peak” even when exposed to the humidity of a bathroom or the temperature fluctuations of an Irish sunroom.

As a 100% waterproof floor, it allows you to enjoy the prestige of herringbone floors in areas where real timber would fail. While many customers compare this range to Coretec flooring, the Van Gogh collection is uniquely celebrated for its 5G® click-locking system. This allows for a rapid, secure “drop-and-lock” installation, making the intricate herringbone layout accessible and cost-effective for every Irish renovation.

Acoustic Peace with Integrated Rubber Underlay

One of the most innovative features of the Van Gogh range is the pre-attached acoustic rubber underlay. This integrated layer is a massive advantage for modern living:

  • Exceptional Sound Reduction: It reduces noise transfer to rooms below by 21dB—ideal for apartments or upstairs bedrooms.
  • Thermal Comfort: Unlike real wood or stone, the rubber backing acts as a thermal barrier, keeping the floor feeling snug and comfortable on chilly winter mornings.
  • Effortless Installation: The rigid core allows for installation directly over most existing hard floors, such as ceramic tiles or floorboards, significantly reducing subfloor preparation time and mess.

Ask a Question

1. Is "Herringbone" harder to clean than standard plank LVT? Not at all. While the pattern looks complex, the surface of the Van Gogh range is completely smooth and non-porous. It is treated with K-Guard+ surface protection, which prevents dirt from getting trapped in the "joints" of the pattern. A simple sweep and a damp microfibre mop are all you need to keep the pattern looking sharp.

2. How much "wastage" should I order for a herringbone layout? Because of the geometric nature of the herringbone pattern and the extra cuts required at the borders of the room, we recommend allowing for 10% to 15% wastage. This ensures you have enough material to maintain the symmetry of the pattern from wall to wall.

3. Is this floor suitable for households with large, active dogs? Absolutely. Canadian Urban Oak Herringbone features a commercial-grade 0.55mm wear layer. This provides excellent resistance to the scratches of pet claws and the heavy footfall of a busy Irish family home. The matte finish also helps to diffuse light, masking minor scuffs far more effectively than a glossier surface.

Fitting Guidelines

In order for your new floor to perform to the best of its ability we advise using a skilled, professional fitter for the installation of your new floor. Prior to installation your floor must be checked to ensure it is level and free from moisture. Should there be any issues with this our levelling compounds and damp proof membranes are available here. It is vitally important, in particular with a floating floor that you do not fit any heavy objects (Such as fitted kitchens or islands) directly to the floor. An installation gap of 10-12mm must also be left around all 4 sides of the room including at doorways. Please refer to manufacturers guidelines for full installation instructions.

Cleaning & Maintenance Guide

The cleaning and maintenance of our Van Gogh by Karndean Flooring is pretty much the same as with all Vinyl Flooring. A sweep of a brush is all it should take to remove light dirt from your floor. For mopping, it is important you use a damp mop rather than a wet mop.  If your floor is too wet, over time it may cause issues from water penetrating the joints. We advise the use of a PH neutral floor cleaner to ensure no damage to the floor. Please make sure to also check the manufacturers guidelines. Also a spin mop or micro fibre mop should ensure the floor is not being overly wet. You can view all our Cleaning & Maintenance products here.
