Product Description

Dramatic Sophistication: Elevate Your Home with Black Shadow Slate

For those looking to make a bold, architectural statement, Black Shadow Slate from the Camaro Rigid Core range is the pinnacle of industrial elegance. This 5.5mm thick LVT by Polyflor masterfully captures the deep, moody aesthetic of genuine dark slate, complete with authentic riven textures and a sophisticated matte finish. It provides a striking, high-contrast foundation that anchors modern Irish kitchens, luxurious bathrooms, and contemporary open-plan living areas. Unlike natural slate, which can be brittle and high-maintenance, Black Shadow Slate offers a flawless, resilient surface that is built for the rigours of 21st-century life.

The Resilience of Camaro Rigid Core: Advanced SPC Technology

In the damp Atlantic climate of Ireland, your flooring needs to be as tough as it is beautiful. Black Shadow Slate is an SPC (Stone Plastic Composite) floor, engineered with a solid, mineral-core construction that provides world-class dimensional stability. Unlike traditional flexible vinyl, this rigid core means the tiles won’t warp, swell, or “telegraph” minor subfloor imperfections, making it the premier choice for both new-build projects and home renovations.

As a 100% waterproof floor, it is the perfect practical choice for moisture-heavy areas like utility rooms and bathrooms. While many homeowners compare this range to Karndean flooring, the Camaro Rigid Core collection is uniquely celebrated for its Valinge 5G® press-fit technology. This allows for a glueless, rapid installation that is up to 30% faster than standard vinyl—making it a favourite for both DIY enthusiasts and professional fitters throughout Ireland.

Silent Luxury with Integrated Rubber Underlay

One of the standout features of this Polyflor flooring is the pre-attached IXPE acoustic rubber underlay. This integrated layer is a massive advantage for modern Irish living:

  • Exceptional Sound Reduction: It reduces noise transfer to rooms below by 18dB—essential for apartments or upstairs renovations.
  • Thermal Comfort: Unlike real slate tiles that feel icy underfoot, the rubber backing acts as a thermal barrier, keeping the floor feeling snug and comfortable on chilly mornings.
  • Cost-Efficient Installation: Because the underlay is already attached to every tile, you save significant time and money on additional materials and labour.

Ask a Question

1. Does a dark floor like "Black Shadow Slate" show up dust and pet hair easily? While very dark, solid-coloured floors can be high-maintenance, Black Shadow Slate features a realistic, multi-tonal slate texture. These subtle grey and charcoal shifts are incredibly effective at diffusing light and masking light dust or pet hair far better than a flat black surface, making it a surprisingly practical choice for busy households.

2. Can I install Black Shadow Slate directly over my existing kitchen tiles? Yes! Thanks to the rigid SPC core and the 5.5mm thickness, Camaro Rigid Core is specifically designed to bridge minor grout lines and subfloor imperfections that would cause thinner vinyls to fail. This saves you the upheaval and cost of a full floor "rip-out" during your renovation.

3. Is this floor suitable for high-traffic hallways with large dogs? Absolutely. Black Shadow Slate features a commercial-grade 0.3mm wear layer reinforced with a polyurethane (PUR) coating. This provides excellent resistance against the scuffs of heavy footfall and the scratches of pet claws, ensuring your floor maintains its "just-laid" look for years to come.

Fitting Guidelines

In order for your new floor to perform to the best of its ability we advise using a skilled, professional fitter for the installation of your new floor. Prior to installation your floor must be checked to ensure it is level and free from moisture. Should there be any issues with this our levelling compounds and damp proof membranes are available here. It is vitally important, in particular with a floating floor that you do not fit any heavy objects (Such as fitted kitchens or islands) directly to the floor. An installation gap of 10-12mm must also be left around all 4 sides of the room including at doorways. Please refer to manufacturers guidelines for full installation instructions.

Cleaning & Maintenance Guide

The cleaning and maintenance of our Polyflor Flooring is pretty much the same as with all Vinyl Flooring. A sweep of a brush is all it should take to remove light dirt from your floor. For mopping, it is important you use a damp mop rather than a wet mop.  If your floor is too wet, over time it may cause issues from water penetrating the joints. We advise the use of a PH neutral floor cleaner to ensure no damage to the floor. Please make sure to also check the manufacturers guidelines. Also a spin mop or micro fibre mop should ensure the floor is not being overly wet. You can view all our Cleaning & Maintenance products here.
