Product Description
Contemporary Elegance: Transform Your Home with Van Gogh Washed Grey Ash
For homeowners in Ireland seeking a sophisticated, modern aesthetic that remains warm and inviting, Van Gogh Washed Grey Ash from Karndean is a true design standout. This 6.5mm thick LVT captures the ethereal beauty of ash timber, treated with a delicate grey wash that highlights the straight grain and subtle knots of the wood. It is the perfect foundation for a contemporary Irish interior, providing a neutral yet characterful palette that complements both bold accent colours and minimalist Scandi-style décor.
The Practicality of SPC Flooring for the Irish Lifestyle
In an Irish climate, our floors have to contend with damp Atlantic air, muddy boots, and the high-traffic demands of modern family life. Washed Grey Ash is an SPC (Stone Plastic Composite) floor, engineered with Karndean’s proprietary K-Core® technology. This rigid core construction ensures that the planks are exceptionally stable and will not warp or “telegraph” minor imperfections from the subfloor beneath.
As a 100% waterproof floor, it is the ultimate practical choice for moisture-prone areas like kitchens, bathrooms, and utility rooms. While many compare Karndean to Coretec flooring, the Van Gogh range is uniquely celebrated for its 5G® click-locking system. This allows for a rapid, secure installation that is up to 30% faster than standard vinyl. With a commercial-grade wear layer, it is “life-proof,” protecting your investment against the daily adventures of pets and children.
Quiet Luxury with Integrated Rubber Underlay
One of the most innovative features of the Van Gogh collection is the pre-attached acoustic rubber underlay. This integrated layer is a massive advantage for Irish renovations:
- Superior Sound Reduction: It reduces noise transfer to rooms below by 21dB—ideal for upstairs bedrooms or apartment living.
- Thermal Comfort: Unlike real wood or stone, the rubber backing acts as a thermal barrier, keeping the floor feeling snug and comfortable on chilly mornings.
- Effortless Installation: The rigid core allows for installation directly over most existing hard floors, such as ceramic tiles or floorboards, significantly reducing subfloor preparation time and mess.

Ask a Question
1. Does the "Washed Grey" finish show dust and pet hair more than darker oaks? Actually, Washed Grey Ash is one of the most forgiving colours in the range. The multi-tonal grey grain and matte finish are excellent at diffusing light and masking light dust, pet hair, and dried water spots. This makes it a fantastic low-maintenance option for busy hallways compared to solid-coloured or very dark floors.
2. Can I install Van Gogh Washed Grey Ash in a sunroom or conservatory? Yes. Thanks to the rigid SPC core, this floor is much more resistant to temperature fluctuations than traditional flexible LVT. While we always recommend using blinds in direct, intense sunlight to protect the wear layer, the dimensional stability of the K-Core ensures the planks won't "peak" or "gap" during an Irish summer.
3. Is the rubber underlay safe for use with water-based underfloor heating? Absolutely. Washed Grey Ash is fully compatible with most water-based underfloor heating systems (up to 27°C). The combination of the dense SPC core and the integrated rubber backing allows for efficient heat transfer, ensuring your "ash" floor feels luxuriously warm on cold winter mornings.
Fitting Guidelines
In order for your new floor to perform to the best of its ability we advise using a skilled, professional fitter for the installation of your new floor. Prior to installation your floor must be checked to ensure it is level and free from moisture. Should there be any issues with this our levelling compounds and damp proof membranes are available here. It is vitally important, in particular with a floating floor that you do not fit any heavy objects (Such as fitted kitchens or islands) directly to the floor. An installation gap of 10-12mm must also be left around all 4 sides of the room including at doorways. Please refer to manufacturers guidelines for full installation instructions.
Cleaning & Maintenance Guide
The cleaning and maintenance of our Van Gogh from Karndean Flooring is pretty much the same as with all Vinyl Flooring. A sweep of a brush is all it should take to remove light dirt from your floor. For mopping, it is important you use a damp mop rather than a wet mop. If your floor is too wet, over time it may cause issues from water penetrating the joints. We advise the use of a PH neutral floor cleaner to ensure no damage to the floor. Please make sure to also check the manufacturers guidelines. Also a spin mop or micro fibre mop should ensure the floor is not being overly wet. You can view all our Cleaning & Maintenance products here.
