Product Description
Modern Nature: Redefine Your Space with Van Gogh Canadian Urban Oak
For homeowners in Ireland seeking a floor that marries the raw, unrefined beauty of the outdoors with the sleek requirements of city living, Van Gogh Canadian Urban Oak from Karndean is a design triumph. This 6.5mm thick LVT offers a stunningly realistic wood-effect plank, featuring a neutral, mid-toned oak palette with subtle, flowing grain patterns. It is a floor designed to bring a sense of calm, organic luxury to any interior, working harmoniously with both industrial “urban” aesthetics and traditional Irish country decors.
The Resilience of SPC Floors for the Irish Lifestyle
Irish homes face unique environmental challenges—from the damp Atlantic mist to the high-traffic demands of a busy family kitchen. Canadian Urban Oak is a high-performance SPC (Stone Plastic Composite) floor, engineered with Karndean’s proprietary K-Core® technology. This rigid core construction ensures the planks remain dimensionally stable, meaning they won’t warp, swell, or “peak” even when exposed to the humidity of a bathroom or the temperature fluctuations of an Irish conservatory.
As a 100% waterproof floor, it allows you to enjoy the timeless aesthetic of oak in areas where real timber would fail. While many customers often compare this range to Coretec flooring, the Van Gogh collection is uniquely celebrated for its 5G® click-locking system. This allows for a rapid, secure “drop-and-lock” installation that is up to 30% faster than standard vinyl—making it a favourite for both DIY enthusiasts and professional fitters across Ireland.
Acoustic Peace with Integrated Rubber Underlay
One of the standout features of the Van Gogh collection is the pre-attached acoustic rubber underlay. This integrated layer is a massive advantage for modern living:
- Exceptional Sound Reduction: It reduces noise transfer to rooms below by 21dB—ideal for upstairs bedrooms or apartment living.
- Thermal Comfort: Unlike real wood or stone, the rubber backing acts as a thermal barrier, keeping the floor feeling snug and comfortable on chilly winter mornings.
- Effortless Installation: The rigid core allows for installation directly over most existing hard floors, such as ceramic tiles or floorboards, significantly reducing subfloor preparation time and mess.

Ask a Question
1. Does the "Canadian Urban Oak" finish show up scratches from large dogs? No floor is 100% scratch-proof, but Canadian Urban Oak features a commercial-grade 0.55mm wear layer reinforced with K-Guard+ surface protection. This makes it exceptionally resilient against pet claws and heavy footfall. Its matte, textured finish also helps to diffuse light, masking minor scuffs far better than a smooth, glossier floor.
2. Can I install this floor over my existing underfloor heating? Absolutely. This floor is fully compatible with most water-based underfloor heating systems (up to 27°C). The combination of the dense SPC core and the integrated rubber backing allows heat to transfer efficiently and evenly, ensuring your "oak" planks feel luxuriously warm during those cold January mornings.
3. Is the "Urban Oak" colour suitable for smaller, darker hallways? Yes. The "Urban Oak" tone is a perfect mid-neutral. It is light enough to reflect natural light and brighten a dark corridor, but deep enough to have a distinctive character. Unlike very dark woods that can make a space feel claustrophobic, this shade provides an open, airy feel.
Fitting Guidelines
In order for your new floor to perform to the best of its ability we advise using a skilled, professional fitter for the installation of your new floor. Prior to installation your floor must be checked to ensure it is level and free from moisture. Should there be any issues with this our levelling compounds and damp proof membranes are available here. It is vitally important, in particular with a floating floor that you do not fit any heavy objects (Such as fitted kitchens or islands) directly to the floor. An installation gap of 10-12mm must also be left around all 4 sides of the room including at doorways. Please refer to manufacturers guidelines for full installation instructions.
Cleaning & Maintenance Guide
The cleaning and maintenance of our Van Gogh from Karndean Flooring is pretty much the same as with all Vinyl Flooring. A sweep of a brush is all it should take to remove light dirt from your floor. For mopping, it is important you use a damp mop rather than a wet mop. If your floor is too wet, over time it may cause issues from water penetrating the joints. We advise the use of a PH neutral floor cleaner to ensure no damage to the floor. Please make sure to also check the manufacturers guidelines. Also a spin mop or micro fibre mop should ensure the floor is not being overly wet. You can view all our Cleaning & Maintenance products here.
