Product Description

Refined, rich, and beautifully detailed, Abbey Oak Herringbone is a floor that blends timeless craftsmanship with modern elegance. Available from FloorStore Direct, Ireland’s leading supplier of engineered floors, herringbone floors, and hardwood flooring, this premium 18mm oak herringbone floor is designed to bring sophistication and warmth to any home or commercial interior. With its smoked, stained, brushed, and matt lacquered finish, Abbey Oak Herringbone showcases the natural character of oak in a floor built for durability, luxury, and everyday life.

Each plank of Abbey Oak Herringbone is crafted from the highest quality European oak, a wood prized for its distinctive grain and natural strength. The smoked and stained finish deepens the oak’s tones, creating a beautifully rich and warm colour palette. The subtle variation between the smoked base and stained top coat gives the floor depth and dimension, making it a striking focal point in both classic and contemporary spaces. It’s the kind of flooring that adds instant atmosphere — warm in tone, sophisticated in appearance, and timeless in appeal.

The brushed finish accentuates the wood’s natural grain and texture, enhancing the authentic feel of genuine oak. This process gently removes the softer fibres from the surface, leaving behind a tactile texture that feels as beautiful as it looks. It’s this level of detail that sets engineered herringbone floors apart, allowing you to enjoy the traditional beauty of hardwood with a modern edge.

Protecting the surface is a matt lacquer finish, which adds a durable protective layer while keeping the natural aesthetic of the oak intact. The matt sheen gives the floor a subtle elegance — soft underfoot and visually understated, it enhances the wood’s organic tones without reflection or glare. The lacquer also provides excellent resistance against scratches, moisture, and stains, making Abbey Oak Herringbone a practical choice for busy family homes and commercial environments alike.

The herringbone pattern has been a hallmark of luxury flooring for centuries, and it continues to exude sophistication today. Its geometric, V-shaped layout adds visual rhythm and movement to any room, transforming even modest spaces into interiors of true architectural beauty. Whether installed in a traditional home, modern apartment, or boutique retail setting, Abbey Oak Herringbone elevates your space with timeless grace.

With its rustic A/Nature grading, this engineered herringbone floor highlights the organic character of real oak while maintaining a balanced, elegant appearance. Expect smaller knots, subtle colour variation, and gentle touches of sapwood — all of which add natural charm without overwhelming the refined look.

At 18mm thick, Abbey Oak Herringbone offers superb stability thanks to its multi-layer engineered construction. This structure ensures it won’t warp or move with temperature or humidity changes, making it ideal for Ireland’s climate and fully compatible with underfloor heating systems.

For a seamless, long-lasting installation, this floor must be glued directly to the subfloor, ensuring a secure and elegant finish.

At FloorStore Direct, we’ve built our reputation as Ireland’s experts in engineered and hardwood flooring, combining over 20 years of experience, exceptional customer service, and expert consultations with Siobhan in our Galway and Tullamore showrooms.

Recommend Adhesive

Our Engineered Herringbone must be directly glued to the subfloor. This will provide a more solid and stable structure that will increase noise reduction, feel better underfoot and will not expand as much. In the long term it will also provide structural stability during any floor sanding. If you have underfloor heating a glued down floor eliminates air pockets and will then allow your heating to work more economically. You can view all our adhesives here.

Fitting Guidelines

In order for your new floor to perform to the best of its ability we advise using a skilled, professional fitter for the installation of your new floor. Prior to installation your floor must be checked to ensure it is level and free from moisture. Should there be any issues with this our levelling compounds and damp proof membranes are available here. It is vitally important, in particular with a floating floor that you do not fit any heavy objects (Such as fitted kitchens or islands) directly to the floor. An installation gap of 10-12mm must also be left around all 4 sides of the room including at doorways. Please refer to manufacturers guidelines for full installation instructions.

Cleaning & Maintenance Guide

The cleaning and maintenance of our Trunk Herringbone is pretty much the same as with most Engineered Flooring. A sweep of a brush is all it should take to remove light dirt from your floor. For mopping, it is important you use a damp mop rather than a wet mop.  If your floor is too wet, over time it may cause issues from water penetrating the joints. We advise the use of a PH neutral floor cleaner to ensure no damage to the floor. Also a spin mop or micro fibre mop should ensure the floor is not being overly wet.
