Ask a Question
1. Does "Old Oak" look too dark for a small, north-facing room? The Supreme 4V Old Oak features a weathered, medium-dark palette that is specifically designed to add character without absorbing all the light. Because it has a multi-tonal grain with lighter "sandy" highlights mixed in with the darker oak, it actually provides a great deal of visual depth. In a north-facing room, this contrast prevents the floor from looking like a flat, dark mass, especially when paired with light-colored furniture or white skirting boards.
2. How does the "True-to-Nature" finish feel underfoot? Unlike standard laminates that can feel like smooth plastic, Old Oak uses a brushed-effect texture. This means the surface grain actually follows the visual pattern of the wood. When you walk on it, you can feel the subtle ridges and grain lines, giving it a much more organic and "warm" feel that mimics real reclaimed timber while maintaining the AC4 durability needed for a busy household.
3. Is the 4-sided V-groove (4V) on Old Oak suitable for homes with pets? Yes, it is. Many pet owners worry about hair and dirt getting trapped in the grooves, but Balterio’s 4V beveled edges are shallow and finished with the same protective wear layer as the rest of the plank. This makes them very easy to vacuum. Furthermore, the rustic "Old Oak" pattern is excellent at camouflaging light scratches or pet hair that might be more visible on a very smooth, dark, or high-gloss floor.
Recommended Underlay
The underlay you choose for your new floor can be just as important as the floor itself as this is what will determine the feel and noise level under your foot. Furthermore if you have underfloor heating, the underlay you choose will determine the level of heat conductivity with some underlays allowing for a quicker heat transfer than others. Because of this, getting the right underlay is hugely important. You can view our entire underlay collection here.
Fitting Guidelines
In order for your new floor to perform to the best of its ability we advise using a skilled, professional fitter for the installation of your new floor. Prior to installation your floor must be checked to ensure it is level and free from moisture. Should there be any issues with this our levelling compounds and damp proof membranes are available here. It is vitally important, in particular with a floating floor that you do not fit any heavy objects (Such as fitted kitchens or islands) directly to the floor. An installation gap of 10-12mm must also be left around all 4 sides of the room including at doorways. Please refer to manufacturers guidelines for full installation instructions.
Cleaning & Maintenance Guide
The cleaning and maintenance of our Balterio laminate floor is pretty much the same as with all Laminate Flooring. A sweep of a brush is all it should take to remove light dirt from your floor. For mopping, it is important you use a damp mop rather than a wet mop. If your floor is too wet, over time it may cause issues from water penetrating the joints. We advise the use of a PH neutral floor cleaner to ensure no damage to the floor. Also a spin mop or micro fibre mop should ensure the floor is not being overly wet.
