Ask a Question
1. How does the "Flint Grey" tone interact with natural versus artificial light? Flint Grey is specifically engineered with a neutral-cool base that acts as a chameleon in Irish homes. In bright, natural daylight, the "stonewashed" grey tones become more prominent, creating a crisp, airy Scandi feel. Under warm evening lamplight, the subtle oak grain patterns emerge more clearly, giving the floor a softer, more "taupe" appearance that keeps the room from feeling too clinical or cold.
2. Is the "Barrel Oak" texture on Flint Grey difficult to maintain? Not at all. Despite having an authentic, textured surface that mirrors real timber, Flint Grey features Balterio's protective wear layer which is non-porous. Unlike real wood where dirt can settle into the grain, this laminate stays hygienic with a simple damp mop. Its mid-grey tone is also incredibly forgiving, as it naturally camouflages light dust and pet hair much better than very dark or very light floors.
3. Why is an 8mm AC4 floor like Flint Grey ideal for modern apartments? For apartment living, the 8mm profile is a "sweet spot" for technical performance. It is thin enough to avoid major door-trimming issues during renovations, yet the AC4 rating provides the commercial-grade durability needed for high-traffic "hallway-to-living" layouts. Additionally, when paired with a high-quality acoustic underlay, this 8mm board is exceptionally efficient at reducing impact noise, making it a "neighbour-friendly" choice for multi-story buildings.
Recommended Underlay
The underlay you choose for your new floor can be just as important as the floor itself as this is what will determine the feel and noise level under your foot. Furthermore if you have underfloor heating, the underlay you choose will determine the level of heat conductivity with some underlays allowing for a quicker heat transfer than others. Because of this, getting the right underlay is hugely important. You can view our entire underlay collection here.
Fitting Guidelines
In order for your new floor to perform to the best of its ability we advise using a skilled, professional fitter for the installation of your new floor. Prior to installation your floor must be checked to ensure it is level and free from moisture. Should there be any issues with this our levelling compounds and damp proof membranes are available here. It is vitally important, in particular with a floating floor that you do not fit any heavy objects (Such as fitted kitchens or islands) directly to the floor. An installation gap of 10-12mm must also be left around all 4 sides of the room including at doorways. Please refer to manufacturers guidelines for full installation instructions.
Cleaning & Maintenance Guide
The cleaning and maintenance of our Balterio laminate floor is pretty much the same as with all Laminate Flooring. A sweep of a brush is all it should take to remove light dirt from your floor. For mopping, it is important you use a damp mop rather than a wet mop. If your floor is too wet, over time it may cause issues from water penetrating the joints. We advise the use of a PH neutral floor cleaner to ensure no damage to the floor. Also a spin mop or micro fibre mop should ensure the floor is not being overly wet.
