Sophisticated Design Meets Everyday Durability: Palio Rigid Palmaria
If you are looking to infuse your home with the timeless elegance of natural timber without the high-maintenance upkeep, Palio Rigid Palmaria from the Palio Express by Karndean range is the ultimate solution. This 4.5mm thick LVT offers a stunningly realistic wood-effect finish, featuring a balanced, neutral oak palette that complements both contemporary and traditional Irish interiors. Whether you are renovating a bustling family kitchen or a tranquil bedroom, Palmaria provides a high-end, seamless look that elevates any space.
The High-Performance Choice: SPC Floors for the Irish Home
In Ireland, our floors face a unique set of challenges—from damp Atlantic air to the high-traffic demands of a busy household. Palmaria is a high-performance SPC (Stone Plastic Composite) floor, featuring a rigid core that provides world-class dimensional stability. This means your planks won’t warp, swell, or “peak,” even when exposed to the humidity of a bathroom or the fluctuating temperatures of a sun-drenched conservatory.
As a 100% waterproof floor, it allows you to enjoy the aesthetic of real wood in areas where natural timber would simply fail. While many homeowners compare this range to Coretec flooring, the Palio Express collection is uniquely celebrated for its 2G™ click-locking system. This allows for a rapid, secure “drop-and-lock” installation that is significantly faster than standard vinyl—making it a favourite for both DIY enthusiasts and professional fitters across Ireland.
Silence and Comfort with Integrated Rubber Underlay
One of the standout features of this Karndean flooring is the pre-attached acoustic rubber underlay. This integrated layer is a massive advantage for modern living:
- Superior Sound Reduction: It reduces noise transfer to rooms below by 19dB—ideal for apartments or upstairs renovations.
- Thermal Comfort: Unlike real wood or stone, the rubber backing acts as a thermal barrier, keeping the floor feeling snug and comfortable on chilly winter mornings.
- Effortless Installation: The rigid core allows for installation directly over most existing hard floors, such as ceramic tiles or floorboards, significantly reducing subfloor preparation time and mess.

Ask a Question
1. Is the 4.5mm thickness durable enough for heavy kitchen appliances? Absolutely. The strength of an SPC floor comes from the density of its core, not just its total height. The rigid core in Palmaria is incredibly dense and provides superior indentation resistance, making it perfectly suited for heavy kitchen islands, fridges, and high-footfall areas without the risk of the planks dipping or separating.
2. Does Palmaria require a separate damp-proof membrane (DPM)? Because Palmaria is a waterproof SPC floor with a built-in rubber underlay, it is highly resistant to moisture. However, if you are installing over a newly poured concrete subfloor that hasn't fully dried, we always recommend checking the moisture levels first. In most renovation cases over older, dry subfloors, no additional DPM is required.
3. Can I install this floor in a bathroom with a walk-in shower? Yes, Palmaria is 100% waterproof and an excellent choice for bathrooms. However, while the floor itself won't be damaged by water, it is not a substitute for a tanked wet-room membrane. For standard bathrooms, it provides a much warmer and more slip-resistant surface than traditional ceramic tiles.
Fitting Guidelines
In order for your new floor to perform to the best of its ability we advise using a skilled, professional fitter for the installation of your new floor. Prior to installation your floor must be checked to ensure it is level and free from moisture. Should there be any issues with this our levelling compounds and damp proof membranes are available here. It is vitally important, in particular with a floating floor that you do not fit any heavy objects (Such as fitted kitchens or islands) directly to the floor. An installation gap of 10-12mm must also be left around all 4 sides of the room including at doorways. Please refer to manufacturers guidelines for full installation instructions.
Cleaning & Maintenance Guide
The cleaning and maintenance of our Palio Express by Karndean Flooring is pretty much the same as with all Vinyl Flooring. A sweep of a brush is all it should take to remove light dirt from your floor. For mopping, it is important you use a damp mop rather than a wet mop. If your floor is too wet, over time it may cause issues from water penetrating the joints. We advise the use of a PH neutral floor cleaner to ensure no damage to the floor. Please make sure to also check the manufacturers guidelines. Also a spin mop or micro fibre mop should ensure the floor is not being overly wet.
