Product Description
Bring timeless beauty and exotic warmth into your home with the Solid Merbau Herringbone, available exclusively from FloorStore Direct, Ireland’s most trusted destination for solid floors, herringbone floors, and hardwood flooring. Known for its strength, stability, and striking colour variation, Merbau is one of the world’s most sought-after hardwoods — and this premium herringbone design showcases its elegance in every plank.
Crafted from 100% solid Merbau, this 18mm thick herringbone floor exudes sophistication and luxury. Its natural colour tones range from warm golden browns to deep reddish hues that darken gracefully over time, developing a rich patina that only real hardwood can achieve. This floor isn’t just a surface — it’s a statement piece that adds enduring character and warmth to any Irish home, from classic Georgian interiors to sleek modern spaces.
Supplied unfinished, this solid herringbone floor must be finished on site with either an oil or a lacquer, allowing you to tailor the final look to your exact preference. An oiled finish enhances the depth and texture of the Merbau grain, offering a natural, tactile feel underfoot. Alternatively, a lacquered finish provides a slightly glossier and more durable surface, perfect for high-traffic areas. Whatever your choice, both options ensure long-term protection and highlight the wood’s vibrant tones beautifully.
The prime grade of this floor means it has minimal knots, colour variation, and sapwood, giving a more refined and uniform appearance. This clean aesthetic allows the true luxury of Merbau’s fine grain to shine through, making it ideal for homeowners seeking elegance and precision. When laid in a classic herringbone pattern, the floor creates a timeless sense of balance and sophistication that elevates any room’s design.
Because it’s a solid floor, the Solid Merbau Herringbone must be glued directly to the subfloor, ensuring maximum stability and longevity. Merbau’s exceptional hardness and density make it one of the most durable hardwoods available, meaning it can easily withstand the demands of everyday life while retaining its stunning appearance for decades.

Recommend Adhesive
Our Solid Herringbone must be directly glued to the subfloor. This will provide a more solid and stable structure that will increase noise reduction, feel better underfoot and will not expand as much. In the long term it will also provide structural stability during any floor sanding. If you have underfloor heating a glued down floor eliminates air pockets and will then allow your heating to work more economically. You can view all our adhesives here.
Fitting Guidelines
In order for your new floor to perform to the best of its ability we advise using a skilled, professional fitter for the installation of your new floor. Prior to installation your floor must be checked to ensure it is level and free from moisture. Should there be any issues with this our levelling compounds and damp proof membranes are available here. It is vitally important, in particular with a floating floor that you do not fit any heavy objects (Such as fitted kitchens or islands) directly to the floor. An installation gap of 10-12mm must also be left around all 4 sides of the room including at doorways. This is an unfinished floor so it must be finished on site with an oil or a lacquer. Please refer to manufacturers guidelines for full installation instructions. All Solid Flooring must be left in the room for at least 2-3 weeks prior to installation to be allowed to acclimatise.
Cleaning & Maintenance Guide
The cleaning and maintenance of our Solid Herringbone is pretty much the same as with most Engineered Flooring. A sweep of a brush is all it should take to remove light dirt from your floor. For mopping, it is important you use a damp mop rather than a wet mop. If your floor is too wet, over time it may cause issues from water penetrating the joints. We advise the use of a PH neutral floor cleaner to ensure no damage to the floor. Also a spin mop or micro fibre mop should ensure the floor is not being overly wet.
