Chalk Oak Herringbone is a beautiful white oak board which is 14mm thick and has been prefinished in a UV matt lacquer to give a more natural look and feel, similar to that of an oiled floor. It has a Character/Rustic grade which means that it has a medium colour variation and beautiful large knots. The herringbone pattern gives you that elegant style, and its versatility means that it can be used in both modern or rustic settings. This floor has a brushed surface which gives the floor an added texture and a more natural appearance. The planks are 90mm wide, tongue & groove and come in 450mm fixed lengths. Chalk Oak Herringbone has also been smoked to give it a darker appearance. This floor is also available in a matching plank.
Product Description
Elegant, bright, and beautifully textured, Mountain Herringbone Chalk Oak is a stunning engineered herringbone floor that combines timeless oak character with modern design. Available from FloorStore Direct, Ireland’s trusted destination for engineered flooring and hardwood floors, this 14mm oak herringbone features a refined smoked, light colour stained, planed, brushed, and matt lacquered finish. The result is a floor that’s effortlessly stylish, full of texture, and ideal for adding natural sophistication to any space.
Each block of Mountain Herringbone Chalk Oak is crafted to highlight the beauty of real oak while giving it a fresh, contemporary twist. The smoked finish subtly enhances the grain and depth of the wood, while the light stain lifts the tone, creating a soft, neutral hue that pairs beautifully with a wide range of interior styles. Whether you’re designing a modern apartment, a coastal-inspired home, or a classic country residence, this delicate balance of colour and tone adds warmth, elegance, and natural brightness. The planed and brushed surface accentuates the oak’s authentic texture, revealing the grain’s intricate detail and creating a beautifully tactile finish. Finally, the matt lacquer seals the wood with a smooth, durable coating that protects against daily wear while maintaining the organic look and feel of natural oak.
The rustic/character grading celebrates the raw beauty of hardwood. Each plank features knots, subtle colour variation, and areas of sapwood, ensuring no two floors are ever alike. This natural variation adds warmth, authenticity, and visual depth, making every installation unique. The herringbone pattern further enhances the visual impact, bringing elegance, rhythm, and architectural interest to any room. When installed, it creates a floor that feels luxurious, timeless, and unmistakably crafted.
Beneath its beautiful surface, Mountain Herringbone Chalk Oak delivers exceptional performance. This 14mm multi-layered engineered floor combines the timeless appeal of hardwood with the strength and stability of modern flooring technology. Unlike traditional solid oak, engineered flooring is designed to withstand fluctuations in humidity and temperature, making it ideal for Ireland’s climate. Its durable construction ensures stability, longevity, and compatibility with underfloor heating — offering comfort, practicality, and enduring style.
For the best results, Mountain Herringbone Chalk Oak must be glued directly to the subfloor. This ensures a flawless, secure installation and enhances the precision of the herringbone pattern for a truly professional finish.

Recommend Adhesive
Our Engineered Herringbone must be directly glued to the subfloor. This will provide a more solid and stable structure that will increase noise reduction, feel better underfoot and will not expand as much. In the long term it will also provide structural stability during any floor sanding. If you have underfloor heating a glued down floor eliminates air pockets and will then allow your heating to work more economically. You can view all our adhesives here.
Fitting Guidelines
In order for your new floor to perform to the best of its ability we advise using a skilled, professional fitter for the installation of your new floor. Prior to installation your floor must be checked to ensure it is level and free from moisture. Should there be any issues with this our levelling compounds and damp proof membranes are available here. It is vitally important, in particular with a floating floor that you do not fit any heavy objects (Such as fitted kitchens or islands) directly to the floor. An installation gap of 10-12mm must also be left around all 4 sides of the room including at doorways. Please refer to manufacturers guidelines for full installation instructions.
Cleaning & Maintenance Guide
The cleaning and maintenance of our Mountain Herringbone is pretty much the same as with most Engineered Flooring. A sweep of a brush is all it should take to remove light dirt from your floor. For mopping, it is important you use a damp mop rather than a wet mop. If your floor is too wet, over time it may cause issues from water penetrating the joints. We advise the use of a PH neutral floor cleaner to ensure no damage to the floor. Also a spin mop or micro fibre mop should ensure the floor is not being overly wet.
