Discover Contemporary Calm with Mezzo Grigio: The Perfect Greige Concrete Aesthetic
In the world of modern Irish interior design, the search for the perfect “greige” is a common pursuit. Korlok Tile Mezzo Grigio from the Palio Express by Karndean collection ends that search. This stunning 6.5mm thick LVT captures the sophisticated, industrial look of polished concrete but infuses it with a warm, sandy undertone. The result is a “Mezzo” terrazzo-style finish that feels both urban and inviting—a floor that bridges the gap between cool grey and warm beige to suit any colour palette.
The Practicality of SPC Flooring for the Irish Lifestyle
Irish homes demand floors that can handle a bit of everything: from damp Atlantic weather and muddy paws to the high-traffic chaos of a busy family kitchen. Korlok Tile Mezzo Grigio is a high-performance SPC (Stone Plastic Composite) floor, engineered for maximum stability. Unlike traditional flexible vinyl, its rigid core ensures the tiles won’t warp or “telegraph” minor imperfections from the subfloor beneath.
As a 100% waterproof floor, it is a superior alternative to real stone or laminate in moisture-prone areas like bathrooms and utility rooms. Whether you are comparing it to Coretec flooring or other premium LVT floors, the Korlok range is renowned for its “life-proof” resilience. It features a commercial-grade wear layer that provides exceptional resistance against scuffs, scratches, and stains, ensuring your floor looks pristine for years to come.
Acoustic Comfort with Integrated Rubber Underlay
Every tile of Mezzo Grigio comes with a pre-attached acoustic rubber underlay. This is a significant advantage for Irish renovations, offering several key benefits:
- Thermal Insulation: It acts as a barrier against cold concrete subfloors, making your room feel warmer and more energy-efficient.
- Sound Reduction: It reduces noise transfer to rooms below by up to 21dB—ideal for apartments or “upside-down” houses.
- Softness Underfoot: The rubber provides a gentle “give” that makes standing for long periods much more comfortable than traditional ceramic tiles.

Ask a Question
1. Is the "greige" tone of Mezzo Grigio better for North-facing or South-facing rooms? Because Mezzo Grigio is a true "greige," it is incredibly versatile. In North-facing Irish rooms where the light can be a bit "blue" and cold, the warm beige undertones of the tile help prevent the space from feeling chilly. In bright, South-facing rooms, the grey tones provide a sophisticated, grounded balance.
2. Can Mezzo Grigio be installed over underfloor heating? Absolutely. Mezzo Grigio is fully compatible with water-based underfloor heating systems. The SPC core is an excellent conductor of heat, ensuring your room warms up quickly and evenly. This creates a "luxury stone" look that is always cosy to the touch.
3. How does the "concrete-effect" finish hide daily wear? The subtle, dappled texture of the Mezzo Grigio finish is a dream for busy households. Unlike a solid, flat-coloured tile that might highlight every speck of dust, the varied tones of this concrete-effect design are masters at masking light debris and dry footprints between cleanings.
Fitting Guidelines
In order for your new floor to perform to the best of its ability we advise using a skilled, professional fitter for the installation of your new floor. Prior to installation your floor must be checked to ensure it is level and free from moisture. Should there be any issues with this our levelling compounds and damp proof membranes are available here. It is vitally important, in particular with a floating floor that you do not fit any heavy objects (Such as fitted kitchens or islands) directly to the floor. An installation gap of 10-12mm must also be left around all 4 sides of the room including at doorways. Please refer to manufacturers guidelines for full installation instructions.
Cleaning & Maintenance Guide
The cleaning and maintenance of our Palio Rigid by Karndean Flooring is pretty much the same as with all Vinyl Flooring. A sweep of a brush is all it should take to remove light dirt from your floor. For mopping, it is important you use a damp mop rather than a wet mop. If your floor is too wet, over time it may cause issues from water penetrating the joints. We advise the use of a PH neutral floor cleaner to ensure no damage to the floor. Please make sure to also check the manufacturers guidelines. Also a spin mop or micro fibre mop should ensure the floor is not being overly wet. You can view all our Cleaning & Maintenance products here.
