1. Does the dark "Black Sands" colour show up dust and pet hair easily? While dark floors are known for highlighting light-coloured debris, Black Sands features a "honed" matte surface and a subtle limestone texture. This organic, non-reflective finish is far more forgiving than a gloss black tile, helping to mask light dust and dried water spots between regular cleanings.
2. Is the "InteGrout" on Black Sands resistant to staining from Irish "hard water"? Yes. Traditional tile grout is porous and often turns white or "chalky" when exposed to hard water minerals. The InteGrout™ on Black Sands is a smooth, non-porous composite that is part of the tile itself. It is specifically designed to be stain-resistant and waterproof, so it won't discolour or harbour limescale.
3. Can I install Black Sands over an uneven concrete subfloor? One of the biggest advantages of this rigid core SPC floor is its ability to bridge minor imperfections. Because of its 6.5mm thickness and K-Core® technology, Black Sands can be installed over most existing hard floors (like old tiles) or slightly uneven subfloors without "telegraphing" the dips or grout lines beneath it.
Fitting Guidelines
In order for your new floor to perform to the best of its ability we advise using a skilled, professional fitter for the installation of your new floor. Prior to installation your floor must be checked to ensure it is level and free from moisture. Should there be any issues with this our levelling compounds and damp proof membranes are available here. It is vitally important, in particular with a floating floor that you do not fit any heavy objects (Such as fitted kitchens or islands) directly to the floor. An installation gap of 10-12mm must also be left around all 4 sides of the room including at doorways. Please refer to manufacturers guidelines for full installation instructions.
Cleaning & Maintenance Guide
The cleaning and maintenance of our Palio Rigid by Karndean Flooring is pretty much the same as with all Vinyl Flooring. A sweep of a brush is all it should take to remove light dirt from your floor. For mopping, it is important you use a damp mop rather than a wet mop. If your floor is too wet, over time it may cause issues from water penetrating the joints. We advise the use of a PH neutral floor cleaner to ensure no damage to the floor. Please make sure to also check the manufacturers guidelines.
