Product Description

Bring the Coast Home: Discover Karndean Korlok Baltic Coastal Oak

For homeowners in Ireland looking to create a serene, light-filled sanctuary, Korlok Baltic Coastal Oak from the Palio Express by Karndean range is the ultimate flooring solution. This 6.5mm thick LVT captures the raw, organic beauty of sun-bleached driftwood and ultra-prime oak. With its soft, light oak tones and subtle grey undertones, it is the perfect foundation for a Scandi-chic aesthetic or a modern coastal retreat. Whether you are refreshing a dark hallway or designing an open-plan kitchen, this floor brings an instant sense of “breathable” luxury to your space.

The Smart Science of SPC Floors for Irish Living

Living in Ireland means your flooring needs to be as resilient as the weather is unpredictable. Baltic Coastal Oak is engineered with a high-density SPC (Stone Plastic Composite) rigid core. This advanced construction ensures that your planks remain dimensionally stable, meaning they won’t warp or swell in the humid conditions of a bathroom or the fluctuating temperatures of an Irish sunroom.

As a 100% waterproof floor, it offers the timeless warmth of real timber without the practical drawbacks. While many homeowners compare this range to Coretec flooring, the Korlok series is uniquely celebrated for its 5G® click-locking system. This allows for a secure, “drop-and-lock” installation that is 30% faster than traditional vinyl. With a commercial-grade wear layer, it is “life-proof,” defending against scratches from pets and the daily hustle of a busy family home.

Silent Comfort with Integrated Rubber Underlay

One of the most innovative features of the Palio Express collection is the pre-attached acoustic rubber underlay. This integrated backing is a game-changer for Irish renovations:

  • Exceptional Sound Dampening: It reduces noise transfer to rooms below by a massive 21dB—ideal for upstairs bedrooms or apartment living.
  • Warmth Underfoot: Unlike real wood or stone, the rubber backing acts as a thermal barrier, keeping the floor feeling snug and comfortable on chilly mornings.
  • Versatile Installation: The rigid core technology allows you to install Baltic Coastal Oak directly over most existing hard floors (like old tiles or floorboards), saving you the mess and cost of extensive subfloor preparation.

Ask a Question

1. Does the "Light Oak" colour show up dirt more than darker wood effects? Actually, Baltic Coastal Oak is incredibly forgiving. Its multi-tonal grain and matte, textured finish are excellent at masking light dust, pet hair, and dried water spots. Unlike very dark or very uniform floors, the natural variation in this light oak design keeps it looking cleaner for longer between mops.

2. Is the 6.5mm thickness strong enough for heavy furniture like a piano or large island? Absolutely. The "thickness" of LVT can be misleading; what matters is the density of the core. The SPC rigid core in Korlok is specifically designed to resist indentation. It provides a solid, stable base that can easily support heavy kitchen islands and large furniture pieces without the risk of the joints separating or the planks dipping.

3. Can I use a steam mop on my Baltic Coastal Oak floor? While the floor is 100% waterproof, we recommend avoiding steam mops. The intense, concentrated heat can potentially damage the adhesive bond of the wear layer over time. Because the surface is non-porous and treated with K-Guard+ protection, a simple damp microfibre mop with a pH-neutral cleaner is all you need to keep it pristine.

Fitting Guidelines

In order for your new floor to perform to the best of its ability we advise using a skilled, professional fitter for the installation of your new floor. Prior to installation your floor must be checked to ensure it is level and free from moisture. Should there be any issues with this our levelling compounds and damp proof membranes are available here. It is vitally important, in particular with a floating floor that you do not fit any heavy objects (Such as fitted kitchens or islands) directly to the floor. An installation gap of 10-12mm must also be left around all 4 sides of the room including at doorways. Please refer to manufacturers guidelines for full installation instructions.

Cleaning & Maintenance Guide

The cleaning and maintenance of our Palio Express by Karndean Flooring is pretty much the same as with all Vinyl Flooring. A sweep of a brush is all it should take to remove light dirt from your floor. For mopping, it is important you use a damp mop rather than a wet mop.  If your floor is too wet, over time it may cause issues from water penetrating the joints. We advise the use of a PH neutral floor cleaner to ensure no damage to the floor. Please make sure to also check the manufacturers guidelines. Also a spin mop or micro fibre mop should ensure the floor is not being overly wet. You can view all our Cleaning & Maintenance products here.
