Elevate Your Interior with Coretec Herringbone Sorrel: The Ultimate Smoked Oak LVT
When it comes to merging timeless Irish elegance with cutting-edge flooring technology, Coretec Herringbone Sorrel stands in a league of its own. As part of the prestigious Coretec Naturals Series, this 8mm thick masterpiece brings the sophisticated “parquetry” aesthetic into the modern age. If you are searching for a floor that captures the deep, soulful character of smoked oak while offering the indestructible nature of modern engineering, your search ends here.
Why Coretec Sorrel is the Specialist’s Choice for Irish Homes
In Ireland, our homes demand more from a floor than just good looks. We deal with damp shoes, unpredictable spills, and high-traffic households. The Coretec Sorrel herringbone collection is a 100% waterproof floor, making it the ideal solution for kitchens, bathrooms, and open-plan living areas where traditional wood might fail.
Built with a high-density SPC (Stone Plastic Composite) core, these planks offer unparalleled dimensional stability. Unlike cheaper vinyl alternatives, Coretec’s rigid core technology means it won’t telegraph subfloor imperfections or expand and contract drastically with our shifting Irish seasons. With a commercial-grade AC5 rating, this floor is “life-proof,” resisting scratches, scuffs, and stains from pets and busy families alike.
The Aesthetic Appeal of Smoked Oak Herringbone
The “Sorrel” colourway is a masterclass in tonal depth. It moves away from the flat, one-dimensional tans of the past, offering a rich smoked oak finish with toasted umber and cocoa undertones. The herringbone pattern adds a sense of architectural “grandeur,” making even modest rooms feel expansive and curated. Whether you are Renovating a period Georgian property in Dublin or a contemporary new-build in Galway, the 8mm profile ensures a solid, premium feel underfoot.

Ask a Question
1. Does the "Sorrel" smoked oak finish require special oils or waxes to maintain its lustre? Not at all. Unlike real smoked oak timber, which requires periodic oiling, Coretec Sorrel is a "fit and forget" floor. Its protective wear layer maintains that beautiful matte, smoked aesthetic for decades without the need for any specialist treatments—just a simple pH-neutral cleaner.
2. Is the 8mm thickness sufficient for a "click" herringbone installation over existing tiles? Yes. The 8mm thickness, combined with the rigid SPC core, is specifically designed to bridge minor grout lines and subfloor variations. It provides a much sturdier "click" lock than thinner 4mm or 5mm alternatives, ensuring the herringbone points remain crisp and tight.
3. Will the dark "Sorrel" tones fade if installed in a bright Irish sunroom? Coretec is engineered with a high-performance UV-inhibitor layer. While we recommend sensible shading during peak summer hours, Sorrel is designed to resist the "bleaching" effect of sunlight, keeping its rich, toasted oak tones vibrant far longer than natural wood or low-grade laminates.
Fitting Guidelines
In order for your new floor to perform to the best of its ability we advise using a skilled, professional fitter for the installation of your new floor. Prior to installation your floor must be checked to ensure it is level and free from moisture. Should there be any issues with this our levelling compounds and damp proof membranes are available here. It is vitally important, in particular with a floating floor that you do not fit any heavy objects (Such as fitted kitchens or islands) directly to the floor. An installation gap of 10-12mm must also be left around all 4 sides of the room including at doorways. Please refer to manufacturers guidelines for full installation instructions.
Cleaning & Maintenance Guide
The cleaning and maintenance of our Coretec Flooring is pretty much the same as with all Vinyl Flooring. A sweep of a brush is all it should take to remove light dirt from your floor. For mopping, it is important you use a damp mop rather than a wet mop. If your floor is too wet, over time it may cause issues from water penetrating the joints. We advise the use of a PH neutral floor cleaner to ensure no damage to the floor. Please make sure to also check the manufacturers guidelines. Also a spin mop or micro fibre mop should ensure the floor is not being overly wet. You can view all our Cleaning & Maintenance products here.
