Unleash Sophistication with Coretec Megatile Stromboli: The Future of Grey Stone
When it comes to modern Irish interiors, few things command attention quite like the cool, industrial elegance of a large-format stone floor. Coretec Megatile Stromboli is the ultimate expression of this aesthetic, offering a stunning grey colour tile that perfectly captures the “clouded” texture of natural basalt and volcanic rock. Part of the elite Naturals Series, these oversized 8.8mm thick tiles are designed to bring a sense of expansive, seamless luxury to any room in your home.
A Sustainable Soul: The Environmental Brilliance of Cork
At Floorstore Direct, we believe that premium flooring shouldn’t cost the earth. One of the most significant advantages of Coretec Stromboli is its built-in natural cork underlay. This isn’t just about convenience; it’s about making a responsible choice for the planet.
Cork is harvested from the bark of the cork oak tree every nine years without ever felling or harming the tree itself, making it one of the most renewable resources in the flooring industry. By choosing Stromboli, you are benefiting from a material that:
- Promotes a Healthier Home: Naturally antimicrobial, cork resists mould and mildew—a vital feature for the damp Irish climate.
- Reduces Carbon Footprint: Cork oak trees absorb up to five times more CO2 after their bark is harvested.
- Superior Insulation: Cork is a natural thermal barrier, keeping your grey tiles warm underfoot and helping to lower energy bills during chilly winters.
Why Stromboli is the Premier SPC Floor for Busy Irish Households
Between the unpredictable Atlantic weather and the high-traffic demands of modern living, your floor needs to be “life-proof.” Coretec Megatile Stromboli is a 100% waterproof floor, ensuring that your stunning stone visual will never warp, swell, or peel, even in moisture-prone areas like kitchens, bathrooms, and utility rooms.
Built with a high-density SPC (Stone Plastic Composite) core, these 8.8mm tiles offer incredible dimensional stability and impact resistance. Unlike traditional ceramic or porcelain, Stromboli is “shatter-proof” and much softer underfoot. With a commercial-grade 0.55mm wear layer, it is engineered to withstand scratches from pets and the heavy footfall of a bustling household with ease.

Ask a Question
1. Does the 8.8mm thickness of "Stromboli" make it difficult to install over existing subfloors? Actually, the 8.8mm profile is a major benefit. The rigid SPC core and substantial thickness allow Stromboli to bridge minor subfloor imperfections and grout lines from old tiles that would "telegraph" through thinner 4mm LVT. This often eliminates the need for expensive and messy subfloor levelling in many Irish renovation projects.
2. How does the "integrated cork" help with noise in open-plan Irish homes? Cork is nature's shock absorber. In large, open-plan kitchen-diners with high ceilings, sound can often "echo." The attached cork backing on Stromboli significantly reduces impact noise (like footsteps or falling objects) by up to 20 decibels, creating a much quieter and more tranquil living environment.
3. Is "Stromboli" compatible with water-based underfloor heating? Absolutely. Despite the insulating properties of cork, Stromboli is fully compatible with modern underfloor heating systems. The 8.8mm tiles are designed to transfer heat efficiently while maintaining their shape, ensuring your grey stone floor feels luxuriously warm on cold January mornings.
Fitting Guidelines
In order for your new floor to perform to the best of its ability we advise using a skilled, professional fitter for the installation of your new floor. Prior to installation your floor must be checked to ensure it is level and free from moisture. Should there be any issues with this our levelling compounds and damp proof membranes are available here. It is vitally important, in particular with a floating floor that you do not fit any heavy objects (Such as fitted kitchens or islands) directly to the floor. An installation gap of 10-12mm must also be left around all 4 sides of the room including at doorways. Please refer to manufacturers guidelines for full installation instructions.
Cleaning & Maintenance Guide
The cleaning and maintenance of our Coretec Flooring is pretty much the same as with all Vinyl Flooring. A sweep of a brush is all it should take to remove light dirt from your floor. For mopping, it is important you use a damp mop rather than a wet mop. If your floor is too wet, over time it may cause issues from water penetrating the joints. We advise the use of a PH neutral floor cleaner to ensure no damage to the floor. Please make sure to also check the manufacturers guidelines. Also a spin mop or micro fibre mop should ensure the floor is not being overly wet. You can view all our Cleaning & Maintenance products here.
