Commanding Elegance: Transform Your Home with Coretec Megatile Algar
When it comes to making a bold architectural statement, Coretec Megatile Algar is the definitive choice for the modern Irish home. This premium 8.8mm thick LVT offers a striking dark grey stone visual that brings the moody, industrial sophistication of polished anthracite into your living space. If you are looking to ground your interior with a floor that radiates strength, luxury, and contemporary “chic,” Algar provides the perfect canvas.
A Sustainable Soul: The Environmental Power of Cork
In an era where we must shop with the planet in mind, Coretec Algar leads the way. Every tile features a built-in natural cork underlay, a feature that is as revolutionary for your home as it is for the environment.
Cork is one of nature’s most sustainable materials. Harvested from the bark of the cork oak tree without ever cutting the tree down, it is a completely renewable resource that actually aids in carbon sequestration. By choosing Algar, you are opting for a floor that:
- Promotes Indoor Air Quality: Cork is naturally antimicrobial and resists the growth of mould and mildew—essential in the damp Irish climate.
- Reduces Waste: The integrated nature of the underlay means fewer materials are used during the manufacturing and installation process.
- Unbeatable Comfort: Despite its dark stone appearance, the cork provides a soft, warm, and quiet feel underfoot, absorbing impact and noise in busy households.
Why Algar is the Ultimate SPC Flooring for Irish Living
Between the unpredictable weather and the high-traffic demands of family life, your flooring needs to be “life-proof.” Coretec Megatile Algar is a 100% waterproof floor, ensuring that utility rooms, kitchens, and bathrooms remain pristine regardless of spills or moisture.
Built with a high-density SPC (Stone Plastic Composite) core, these tiles offer incredible dimensional stability. The 8.8mm profile is significantly thicker than standard vinyl, providing a “solid” feel that mimics real stone without the risk of cracking or chipping. With a commercial-grade wear layer, Algar is designed to resist scratches, scuffs, and stains, making it the premier LVT flooring choice in Ireland.

Ask a Question
1. Does the "Algar" dark grey tile show "dust-bunny" accumulation more than lighter floors? While dark floors are often feared for showing dust, Algar features a sophisticated "clouded" texture. This subtle variation in the dark grey tones is incredibly effective at masking light dust and dry footprints, making it far more practical for a busy Irish hallway than a flat-coloured dark tile.
2. Is the 8.8mm thickness of "Algar" too high to fit under existing Irish internal doors? At 8.8mm (including the built-in underlay), Algar is thicker than standard LVT but still slimmer than most laminate-plus-underlay combinations. In most modern Irish homes, it fits comfortably under doors. However, if you are installing over existing tiles, a very slight "trim" of the door bottom may be required—a small price to pay for such a premium, solid-feeling floor.
3. How does the cork underlay perform if there is a plumbing leak in a kitchen? Because Coretec Algar is 100% waterproof, the SPC core and the top layer are unaffected by water. The cork underlay is naturally resistant to rot and moisture; however, if a major flood occurs, we recommend lifting the planks to allow the subfloor to dry completely. Once dry, the tiles can usually be re-installed, as the cork maintains its structural integrity.
Fitting Guidelines
In order for your new floor to perform to the best of its ability we advise using a skilled, professional fitter for the installation of your new floor. Prior to installation your floor must be checked to ensure it is level and free from moisture. Should there be any issues with this our levelling compounds and damp proof membranes are available here. It is vitally important, in particular with a floating floor that you do not fit any heavy objects (Such as fitted kitchens or islands) directly to the floor. An installation gap of 10-12mm must also be left around all 4 sides of the room including at doorways. Please refer to manufacturers guidelines for full installation instructions.
Cleaning & Maintenance Guide
The cleaning and maintenance of our Coretec Flooring is pretty much the same as with all Vinyl Flooring. A sweep of a brush is all it should take to remove light dirt from your floor. For mopping, it is important you use a damp mop rather than a wet mop. If your floor is too wet, over time it may cause issues from water penetrating the joints. We advise the use of a PH neutral floor cleaner to ensure no damage to the floor. Please make sure to also check the manufacturers guidelines. Also a spin mop or micro fibre mop should ensure the floor is not being overly wet. You can view all our Cleaning & Maintenance products here.
