Transform Your Space with Cascada Light Storm Oak
In the world of interior design, grey remains the ultimate sophisticated neutral, but finding a grey floor that still feels “alive” can be a challenge. Enter the Quick-Step Cascada Light Storm Oak (CASC5673). This isn’t a flat, artificial grey; it is a nuanced, atmospheric hue that mimics the soft light of an Atlantic sky. At Floorstore Direct, we have earned our reputation as the best place in Ireland to buy engineered flooring because we provide homeowners with surfaces that balance modern trends with timeless natural beauty.
The Light Storm Oak features a Marquant grading. For those seeking authenticity, this is the gold standard. A Marquant grade ensures the floor remains true to its roots, showcasing a lively character filled with natural knots, striking colour variations, and the unique beauty of sapwood. When you install this floor, you aren’t just laying down planks; you are bringing a unique piece of nature into your home, ensuring no two rooms ever look exactly the same.
Engineering That Masters the Irish Climate
Irish homes face unique challenges—high humidity, damp weather, and active family lives. This 13mm thick engineered floor from Quick-Step is designed to meet those challenges head-on. The Cascada collection is a pioneer in the industry, offering a level of resilience that traditional wood simply cannot match.
- Revolutionary Water Resistance: This board is truly water-resistant. Thanks to the “Wood for Life” technology, the surface and joints are protected against moisture. This makes it a luxury choice for areas once off-limits to wood, such as kitchens, utility rooms, and even bathrooms.
- Textured Mastery: Each plank is brushed to accentuate the natural grain and finished with a light grey stain and an extra matt lacquer. This gives you a tactile, non-reflective surface that feels like raw wood but offers the protection of seven layers of high-performance shield.
- Flexible Installation: Whether you prefer the rock-solid feel of a glue-down application or the speed of floating it over an underlay, the Uniclic Multifit system ensures a gap-free, professional finish every time.

Ask a Question
1. Does a grey floor make a room feel cold? Not the Light Storm Oak! Because it is real wood with a Marquant grade, the natural grain and knots provide a tactile warmth that prevents the grey tones from feeling clinical. It actually makes a space feel expansive and airy.
2. Is the extra matt lacquer hard to keep clean? Actually, it’s easier than gloss! The extra matt finish hides footprints and micro-scratches much better than shiny floors. A simple sweep and a damp mop with a pH-neutral wood cleaner will keep it looking pristine.
3. Can I install this over a concrete subfloor? Absolutely. Whether you choose to glue it down for a permanent feel or float it over a moisture-rated underlay, this 13mm board is incredibly stable and perfect for concrete subfloors.
Recommend Underlay/Adhesive
Our Engineered Flooring can be fitted either over an underlay as part of a floating system or can be directly glued to the subfloor. Our advice would always be for you to glue your floor down if possible. This will provide a more solid and stable structure that will increase noise reduction, feel better underfoot and will not expand as much. In the long term it will also provide structural stability during any floor sanding. If you have underfloor heating a glued down floor eliminates air pockets and will then allow your heating to work more economically. You can view all our adhesives here.
If you choose to float your floor the underlay you choose can be just as important as the floor itself as this is what will determine the feel and noise level under your foot. Furthermore if you have underfloor heating, the underlay you choose will determine the level of heat conductivity with some underlays allowing for a quicker heat transfer than others. Because of this, getting the right underlay is hugely important. You can view our entire underlay collection here.
Fitting Guidelines
In order for your new floor to perform to the best of its ability we advise using a skilled, professional fitter for the installation of your new floor. Prior to installation your floor must be checked to ensure it is level and free from moisture. Should there be any issues with this our levelling compounds and damp proof membranes are available here. It is vitally important, in particular with a floating floor that you do not fit any heavy objects (Such as fitted kitchens or islands) directly to the floor. An installation gap of 10-12mm must also be left around all 4 sides of the room including at doorways. Please refer to manufacturers guidelines for full installation instructions.
Cleaning & Maintenance Guide
The cleaning and maintenance of our Quick-Step Flooring is pretty much the same as with most Engineered Flooring. A sweep of a brush is all it should take to remove light dirt from your floor. For mopping, it is important you use a damp mop rather than a wet mop. If your floor is too wet, over time it may cause issues from water penetrating the joints. We advise the use of a PH neutral floor cleaner to ensure no damage to the floor. Also a spin mop or micro fibre mop should ensure the floor is not being overly wet.
