Product Description
The Untamed Elegance of Cascada Desert Oak
When it comes to bringing the rugged, soulful spirit of the outdoors into your home, few surfaces can compete with the Quick-Step Cascada Desert Oak. This is not a floor for those who want a flat, repetitive pattern; it is a floor for those who appreciate the raw artistry of nature. At Floorstore Direct, we have solidified our reputation as the best place in Ireland to buy engineered flooring because we curate collections that marry the timeless appeal of real timber with the relentless durability of modern engineering.
The Desert Oak decor features a “Vibrant” grading. In the world of high-end wood, this is where the character lies. Unlike “Prime” grades that can look sterile, the Cascada vibrant grade showcases a stunning array of large knots, dramatic colour variations, and visible sapwood. It tells the story of the oak tree it came from, providing a rich, organic texture that adds immediate depth and personality to any interior—from a coastal retreat in Kerry to a chic, modern apartment in Dublin.
Superior Engineering for the Modern Irish Home
While the aesthetic is inspired by heritage, the technology is purely futuristic. This 13mm thick masterpiece from Quick-Step is designed to solve the age-old problem of real wood in high-moisture environments. Finished with an extra matt lacquer, the surface mimics the look of raw, oiled timber while providing a high-performance shield against daily wear and tear.
- Pioneering Water Resistance: The Cascada range features the revolutionary “Wood for Life” technology. This unique coating ensures that the surface is water-resistant, preventing moisture from seeping into the grain or the joints—making it a viable, luxury option for kitchens and open-plan areas.
- Versatile Installation Methods: Whether you prefer the rock-solid feel of a glue-down application or the speed and convenience of floating it over a high-quality underlay, this floor is designed to accommodate your specific subfloor requirements.
- Extra Matt Lacquer: The finish isn’t just beautiful; it’s practical. It seals the wood’s pores to prevent staining while ensuring there is no artificial “shine,” keeping the focus entirely on the natural oak beauty.

Ask a Question
1. Does "Vibrant Grading" mean the floor is low quality? Quite the opposite! Vibrant grade is a deliberate choice for luxury interiors. It uses the full character of the tree, including knots and colour shifts, to prove it is a real wood product rather than a printed imitation.
2. Can I use this floor over underfloor heating? Yes. The 13mm engineered construction is highly stable and offers excellent thermal conductivity, making it perfectly compatible with modern underfloor heating systems when installed correctly.
3. Is the extra matt lacquer hard to keep clean? No, it’s remarkably simple. Because the lacquer seals the wood, dirt can't get trapped in the grain. A quick sweep and an occasional damp mop with a pH-neutral wood cleaner will keep it looking brand new.
Recommend Underlay/Adhesive
Our Engineered Flooring can be fitted either over an underlay as part of a floating system or can be directly glued to the subfloor. Our advice would always be for you to glue your floor down if possible. This will provide a more solid and stable structure that will increase noise reduction, feel better underfoot and will not expand as much. In the long term it will also provide structural stability during any floor sanding. If you have underfloor heating a glued down floor eliminates air pockets and will then allow your heating to work more economically. You can view all our adhesives here.
If you choose to float your floor the underlay you choose can be just as important as the floor itself as this is what will determine the feel and noise level under your foot. Furthermore if you have underfloor heating, the underlay you choose will determine the level of heat conductivity with some underlays allowing for a quicker heat transfer than others. Because of this, getting the right underlay is hugely important. You can view our entire underlay collection here.
Fitting Guidelines
In order for your new floor to perform to the best of its ability we advise using a skilled, professional fitter for the installation of your new floor. Prior to installation your floor must be checked to ensure it is level and free from moisture. Should there be any issues with this our levelling compounds and damp proof membranes are available here. It is vitally important, in particular with a floating floor that you do not fit any heavy objects (Such as fitted kitchens or islands) directly to the floor. An installation gap of 10-12mm must also be left around all 4 sides of the room including at doorways. Please refer to manufacturers guidelines for full installation instructions.
Cleaning & Maintenance Guide
The cleaning and maintenance of our Quick-Step Flooring is pretty much the same as with most Engineered Flooring. A sweep of a brush is all it should take to remove light dirt from your floor. For mopping, it is important you use a damp mop rather than a wet mop. If your floor is too wet, over time it may cause issues from water penetrating the joints. We advise the use of a PH neutral floor cleaner to ensure no damage to the floor. Also a spin mop or micro fibre mop should ensure the floor is not being overly wet.
