Product Description
Midnight Luxury: Redefine Your Interior with Art Select Black Onyx
If you are looking to make a bold, sophisticated architectural statement, Art Select Black Onyx by Karndean is the ultimate foundation for your home. This premium 3mm thick LVT captures the deep, mysterious allure of volcanic stone, featuring a striking black tile effect that radiates high-end luxury. Unlike natural stone, which can feel cold and be difficult to maintain, Black Onyx offers a warmer, more resilient surface while retaining the intricate textures and obsidian depth of authentic mineral rock. It is the perfect choice for those aiming for a sleek, contemporary aesthetic in an Irish home.
The Art Select Advantage: Bespoke Design at Your Fingertips
The Art Select collection is widely considered the pinnacle of Karndean flooring, designed to replicate natural materials with breathtaking accuracy. Because Black Onyx is a permanent glue-down LVT, it serves as a creative canvas for homeowners. At Floorstore Direct, we specialise in helping our customers explore the extensive design options this range provides:
-
Custom Inlays: You can choose to install these tiles with Karndean feature strips to create a realistic “grout line” in contrasting silver or charcoal, or lay them edge-to-edge for a seamless, minimalist look.
-
Bespoke Borders: Define your kitchen island or hallway perimeter with a decorative border to add a tailored, professional finish to your room.
-
Versatile Orientations: These tiles can be fitted in multiple directions—from a traditional grid to a dynamic diagonal layout—allowing you to manipulate the sense of light and space within your home.
Engineered for High-Performance Irish Living
Black Onyx is not just a visual masterpiece; it is a technical powerhouse built for the realities of modern life. As a 100% waterproof floor, it is the premier practical solution for moisture-heavy areas like bathrooms, wet rooms, and busy kitchens.
To achieve a flawless, professional result, the installation process is vital. This floor must be adhered to a subfloor that is perfectly level, smooth, and entirely free from moisture before the adhesive is applied. This permanent bond provides superior structural stability and a quiet, solid feel underfoot—unlike floating floors that can often “click” or move. Furthermore, it is fully compatible with underfloor heating systems, ensuring your home stays snug during those damp Irish winters.

Ask a Question
1. Does a black tile effect floor show up every speck of dust? While dark floors are bold, the Art Select Black Onyx features subtle tonal variations and a textured finish that is much more forgiving than a flat, gloss black surface. Combined with Karndean’s protective K-Guard+ technology, a simple sweep and damp mop are all you need to keep it looking pristine.
2. Why is the 3mm thickness and 0.7mm wear layer important? The 3mm gauge represents Karndean’s most robust construction. The heavy-duty 0.7mm wear layer provides superior protection against scuffs and indentations, making it significantly more durable than standard 2mm LVT products—ideal for high-traffic areas and homes with pets.
3. Can I install Black Onyx myself or do I need a professional? Because this is a glue-down product that requires a perfectly level and moisture-free subfloor, we highly recommend professional installation. Proper subfloor preparation is the key to ensuring the lifetime warranty of your Karndean floor and achieving that signature high-end finish.
Recommend Adhesive
LVT can shrink, expand, or lift under pressure if not properly bonded. Uzin KE66 is the adhesive we recommend as it is a fibre reinforced adhesive, which means it holds the tile firmly in place, preventing movement even in high-traffic areas or when exposed to temperature fluctuations. Please note all subfloors must be 100% clean, dry and level before LVT installation. Check out our adhesives, levelling compounds and primers here.
Fitting Guidelines
In order for your new floor to perform to the best of its ability we advise using a skilled, professional fitter for the installation of your new floor. Prior to installation your floor must be checked to ensure it is level and free from moisture. Should there be any issues with this our levelling compounds and damp proof membranes are available here. It is vitally important, in particular with a floating floor that you do not fit any heavy objects (Such as fitted kitchens or islands) directly to the floor. An installation gap of 10-12mm must also be left around all 4 sides of the room including at doorways. Please refer to manufacturers guidelines for full installation instructions.
Cleaning & Maintenance Guide
The cleaning and maintenance of our Karndean Design Flooring is pretty much the same as with most Flooring. A sweep of a brush is all it should take to remove light dirt from your floor. For mopping, it is important you use a damp mop rather than a wet mop. If your floor is too wet, over time it may cause issues from water penetrating the joints. We advise the use of a PH neutral floor cleaner to ensure no damage to the floor. Also a spin mop or micro fibre mop should ensure the floor is not being overly wet.
