Ask a Question

1. What are the main benefits of choosing a 20mm engineered floor over a thinner board?

A 20mm engineered floor features a substantially thicker structural core paired with a deep real-oak wear layer. This extra depth offers superior acoustic insulation, feels completely solid underfoot (matching the weight of solid oak), and allows the timber to be sanded back and refinished multiple times over its long lifespan.

2. How do I maintain and clean a UV oiled engineered oak floor?

A factory UV oil finish protects timber fibers deep below the surface while preserving a smooth, tactile matte appearance. Maintenance is simple: sweep or vacuum daily using a soft parquet brush, and damp-mop as needed with a pH-neutral wood floor cleaner. Periodic application of a spray-on maintenance oil keeps the wood hydrated and water-repellent.

3. Can I get the Kilkenny Linen finish custom-made in patterns like Herringbone or Mansion Weave?

Yes! Through our exclusive partnership with Amber Sky Flooring, we offer complete customization. If you love the muted tones of Kilkenny Linen, we can manufacture it for you in classic wide planks, herringbone, mansion weave, or Versailles parquet formats in your choice of board dimensions.

Recommend Adhesive

Because of the excessive length and width of this floor we advise them to be directly glued to the subfloor. This will provide a more solid and stable structure that will increase noise reduction, feel better underfoot and will not expand as much. In the long term it will also provide structural stability during any floor sanding. If you have underfloor heating a glued down floor eliminates air pockets and will then allow your heating to work more economically. You can view all our adhesives here.

Fitting Guidelines

In order for your new floor to perform to the best of its ability we advise using a skilled, professional fitter for the installation of your new floor. Prior to installation your floor must be checked to ensure it is level and free from moisture. Should there be any issues with this our levelling compounds and damp proof membranes are available here. It is vitally important, in particular with a floating floor that you do not fit any heavy objects (Such as fitted kitchens or islands) directly to the floor. An installation gap of 10-12mm must also be left around all 4 sides of the room including at doorways. Please refer to manufacturers guidelines for full installation instructions.

Cleaning & Maintenance Guide

The cleaning and maintenance of our Amber Sky Flooring is pretty much the same as with most Engineered Flooring. A sweep of a brush is all it should take to remove light dirt from your floor. For mopping, it is important you use a damp mop rather than a wet mop.  If your floor is too wet, over time it may cause issues from water penetrating the joints. We advise the use of a PH neutral floor cleaner to ensure no damage to the floor. Also a spin mop or micro fibre mop should ensure the floor is not being overly wet.
