Product Description
Bring the timeless charm of traditional craftsmanship into your home with the Cottage Grade Solid Herringbone from Amber Sky Flooring, available exclusively from FloorStore Direct, Ireland’s number one destination for solid floors, herringbone, and hardwood flooring. This premium 16mm solid herringbone floor captures the authentic character of natural wood, offering a rustic yet refined foundation that enhances both period and contemporary interiors alike.
Unlike pre-finished products, this unfinished solid herringbone flooring gives you complete creative control over your final look. It must be finished on site with either an oil or lacquer, allowing you to achieve a bespoke finish perfectly suited to your home’s unique style. Whether you prefer the natural sheen of an oiled surface or the durable protection of a lacquer, this flexibility ensures a floor that is not only beautiful but entirely your own.
Each 16mm block is made from 100% solid hardwood — a hallmark of quality and longevity. Designed to be glued directly to the subfloor, it provides an exceptionally stable and durable installation that will stand the test of time. This traditional installation method enhances the floor’s acoustic performance and creates a solid, premium feel underfoot, ideal for busy family homes, open-plan living spaces, or commercial environments seeking a touch of sophistication.
The cottage grade finish celebrates the raw beauty of real timber. Expect to see sunken unfilled knots, cracks, markings, colour variation, and sapwood — all of which add unique depth and texture. Each block tells its own story, creating a floor that feels alive with history and natural character. This grading ensures no two pieces are ever identical, giving your space a handcrafted authenticity that mass-produced flooring simply cannot replicate.
Laid in the classic herringbone pattern, this floor brings a sense of timeless geometry and elegance to any interior. The intricate zig-zag design adds dimension and visual movement, making it a favourite for those who appreciate traditional European styling with a rustic twist. Whether installed in a grand hallway, an intimate sitting room, or a modern kitchen, the Cottage Grade Solid Herringbone instantly elevates your space with warmth and personality.

Recommend Adhesive
Our Solid Herringbone must be directly glued to the subfloor. This will provide a more solid and stable structure that will increase noise reduction, feel better underfoot and will not expand as much. In the long term it will also provide structural stability during any floor sanding. If you have underfloor heating a glued down floor eliminates air pockets and will then allow your heating to work more economically. You can view all our adhesives here.
Fitting Guidelines
In order for your new floor to perform to the best of its ability we advise using a skilled, professional fitter for the installation of your new floor. Prior to installation your floor must be checked to ensure it is level and free from moisture. Should there be any issues with this our levelling compounds and damp proof membranes are available here. It is vitally important, in particular with a floating floor that you do not fit any heavy objects (Such as fitted kitchens or islands) directly to the floor. An installation gap of 10-12mm must also be left around all 4 sides of the room including at doorways. This is an unfinished floor so it must be finished on site with an oil or a lacquer. Please refer to manufacturers guidelines for full installation instructions. All Solid Flooring must be left in the room for at least 2-3 weeks prior to installation to be allowed to acclimatise.
Cleaning & Maintenance Guide
The cleaning and maintenance of our Solid Herringbone is pretty much the same as with most Engineered Flooring. A sweep of a brush is all it should take to remove light dirt from your floor. For mopping, it is important you use a damp mop rather than a wet mop. If your floor is too wet, over time it may cause issues from water penetrating the joints. We advise the use of a PH neutral floor cleaner to ensure no damage to the floor. Also a spin mop or micro fibre mop should ensure the floor is not being overly wet.
